Introduction

Have you noticed a shift in your child or family? Maybe you're concerned but aren't sure what the root of the issue is... As a parent, you want your child to feel secure, confident, and safe – from bullying, social media, societal standards, the pandemic, and unfortunate family circumstances. The truth is… Events and people have affected your child in a way that matters to you, but getting them to open up and divulge all that is happening within them is possibly VERY challenging. [Note: No insurance is accepted at this time. Virtual sessions are also available if located outside of California or outside of the US.] Sometimes the most confident child still can’t find the words to say… Certain feelings, emotions, and traumas live deep within your child. Even when they want to release it, there can be extreme difficulty in doing so. These feelings can affect almost everything ranging from your child’s schoolwork to behavior, friendships, family dynamics, overall wellness, and more… That’s where I enter the picture. As a Wellness Counselor, I work with your child at eye level. Without the daunting need to earn the approval of authoritative teachers, doctors, and even psychologists, children and young adults have the unique ability to share and open up with someone who gets it. In our sessions, your child has the floor to talk about their dreams, aspirations, fears, and even unfortunate events that they’re hiding inside. Each session adheres to the understanding that diagnosis of you or your child is not the goal. The only issue of greatest concern is their well-being. With your child’s needs at the center, they soar. It’s an unbelievable feeling for a child to receive this type of support. With the pressure off and the need to receive approval put aside, your child can release, let go, and share. The weight released in each session is often monumental, with clients leaving feeling affirmed, capable, and one step closer to gaining balance again. Let’s hop on a brief call. Typically, within the first 15 minutes, we can determine if one-on-one sessions are the right step for your child. I will always make a recommendation based on my expertise and your family's situation. ___ Hi, I’m Melissa, a Wellness Counselor to your child or young adult. I received my Master's from Northwestern University and have a unique gift of connecting with children, building rapport, and helping them feel safe to open up. This work is more than a career, but a calling. Each child gets their own unique support based on their personality, needs, and family goals. I equip the children with tools to better communicate, express their emotions in a healthy way, and also support the process of healing after a traumatic event. These counseling sessions are led with mentorship at the center, where your little one is met at eye level and has the floor. They’ll be heard, understood, and counseled in the areas needed most. The stress, overwhelm, mental and physical issues can begin to shift out of focus as your child gains confidence, a sense of safety, and feels secure in their future. Let’s hop on a brief call. Typically, within the first 15 minutes, we can determine the next right step. • How did you get started doing this type of work?
    • I used to be a teacher. This work introduced me deeper to the unique dynamics children and families face. After years of teaching and then credentialling in wellness, I found that my unique approach really is an answer to many families' needs. I remove many of the fears and hesitancies parents have with counseling and create an environment where the child and parents can feel safe. Give me a call to learn more.
  • What types of customers have you worked with?
    • I've worked with a lot of diverse families in California and throughout the nation. This includes families of very diverse ethnic backgrounds, faiths, and cultures. I think my practice has become a melting pot of very important and diverse families who want wellness to be the central goal for their child/family, and not diagnosis or prescriptions. I understand that and facilitate that environment.
  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
    • The three areas to consider for your child and family when it comes to counseling is 1.) Does this counselor connect with my child? (This is why for young people 11 and older, I like to include them in the consultation). 2. Does the counselor understand and respect my family's values, culture, and beliefs? (This is important, so the client isn't having to overexplain in sessions or isn't being swayed in a way that goes against the family's core principles.) 3.) Do I have enough peace to give it a try? ( I offer the first session with no strings attached, so you can decide whether you'd like to continue...and every client has.)
