Introduction

My office continues to be located at 4111 East Valley Auto Drive, Mesa, 85206. As of January, 2024, I moved to Suite 106, the Genesis Counseling Center. on the first floor. My fee for services has increased to $65 per session, not per hour, per session. Clients for whom travel is a challenge... I also work via Zoom. Why should customers hire me, in a word, Experience. I have over 40 years experience in a wide range of human services programs with people of all ages and all presenting issues. I have been licensed continuously at a Masters level in Clinical Psychology since 1975. Read on to the Q and A below for more information.

About Us
  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
    • Currently Thumbtacks customers receive an affordable rate of $65 per session, not per hour, per session. The rate increase, effective January, 2024 for new clients, was a result of moving into a new office and a rent increase. I will continue to accommodate customers who, due to their circumstances, find the rate challenging. I have yet to turn a client in need away based on their financial situation.
  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
    • At the time an appointment is made I ask the client what they want to work on, what issue they want to resolve. Part of their set of Intake forms is tailored to their specific treatment goals, beginning the process of gathering information to shape their treatment plan. Typically the initial session is focused on gathering information, explaining the services I offer and presenting at least one technique the client can begin to use immediately.
  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
    • I have a BA in Psychology and an MA in Psychology, a two year program specifically designed to produce front line practitioners. I have been continuously licensed as a professional since 1975. I am a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, trained in the application of Brainspotting (an outgrowth of EMDR), the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Eden Energy and the Havening Technique. I am a HeartMath Certified Practitioner for addressing stress, anxiety and self-regulation. I attend a minimum of 40 hours of continuing education annually.
  • How did you get started doing this type of work?
    • Based on my performance, I was hired as a staff psychologist at the end of an internship at a child and family treatment center. The majority of my early career has been in traditional settings, providing traditional forms of human services, lots of "talk" therapy and psychological evaluations, while providing direct services. I have experience managing a wide variety of programs for children and adults, inpatient and outpatient, at a local and state level, in New York, Michigan, Bolivia and Arizona. As I became aware of the developments in energy psychology I sought out training in these new techniques. I transitioned from a working in a large mental health services corporation, where these techniques were not yet accepted, to operating my own private practice.
  • What types of customers have you worked with?
    • Customers come in asking to have a problem resolved. It is an issue that is causing then serious physical or emotional discomfort or restricting them from living the life they want. For example, panic attacks, chronic physical pain, inability to release stress, fears such as fear of heights, fear of using elevators, fear of speaking in front of a group or doubt that they can ever have, that they deserve, a better life. With the cost of cigarettes increasing over the years and a clearer understand of the health implications, smoking cessation (cigarettes or vape dispensers) continues to be a steady service request. Weight management is a frequent issue. My focus is on teens thru adults.
  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
    • 1. Several clients have come in this past year with specific limitations related to driving. One had to get off the expressway before he got to a spot where he had seen a horrific accident. This was the only "traumatic"event he had experienced while driving. He felt panicky as he approached that spot. He was embarrassed at what he considered his weakness when anyone found out about his problem. The extra time getting to and from his job was a problem. After 2 sessions using Brainspotting and EFT, he was clear and returned to his familiar driving routine. 2. A client was continually triggered when something reminded him of a distressing event in his life. His anxiety level would be elevated for several days, sleep was a problem. He was impatient with others at home and a work. The recent event reminded him of some experiences from his childhood. Since there were multiple events involved, the process took several sessions over the course of 6 months. The end result was, if an experience that was similar to the formerly distressing events occurred he was no longer filled with anxiety and thrown off balance. He felt "normal" again. 3. Multiple clients in the past year have become tobacco free or released the vape habit. As a former smoker it gives me a great deal of satisfaction to see them throw the last of their smoking material into the "Bag of Death" in my office and begin enjoying the "extra" cash in their budget and a healthier future.
  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
    • Ask to discuss the services over the phone or to sit down with the provider and discuss what they will do to help you resolve your issue. Ask them how their type of service works-what do they actually do and what will you be expected to do? Have they worked with your issue before? Can they "estimate", (and it will be a rough estimate) how many sessions it will take for you to see significant improvement? During this process you will decide if you trust this person, if you are comfortable with this person, if you "feel" you can work with this person.
  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
    • It is important to be specific about what you want to accomplish and develop an objective way to measure your progress. "I want to improve my life" is a starting point and needs to be focused to, for example, I want to feel confident enough to go for a better job and earn a specific promotion. Or, I want to be able speak up in meetings at work and share my input, my ideas. Or, I want to lose 40 pounds over the next 12 months, as opposed to I want to "lose some weight". I want to be able to move on, find a new relationship instead of getting stuck in the memories linked to a bad breakup and stop dating. I want to be able to bounce back, to calm myself down after a difficult meeting, phone conversation, Zoom session with a difficult client instead of just being "off" the rest of the day. Are they ready to "work" on their issue? Just like any other significant change a person wants to make, it takes goals, plans and practice. It is very important for clients understand that they need to do the work, along with the service provider. It is not typically just one or two sessions where someone is put in trance and told they will no longer have those painful thoughts/memories and like magic their world has changed.
